Ian coleman, chief empowerment officer

My approach to coaching is informed by a 30-year career as an elite sport coach, sport psychologist, business owner and educator. As a Sports Psychologist working with elite athletes, I was fascinated by how performers often achieved great success, including Olympic medals and world records, but still struggled with burnout and a sense of having paid too high a price for their success. For this reason, my focus in is on providing a safe, nurturing and supportive space in which we can discover what is really important to you in life, to help you find meaning and wellbeing, develop your emotional intelligence, and ultimately to 'be more' rather than to just 'have more'.

My Approach

The uniqueness of my approach is that I also attend to what lies beneath the surface - what really drives feelings and behaviours in individuals and organisations. My guiding philosophy is that the individual experiencing the challenge is the one best placed to find the solutions to that challenge and my role is to help you access the inner resources you need to help you move forward in new ways and with greater confidence and focus.

Emotions trump everything and we’re not always conscious of what triggers us. We all become anxious, more than we realise, in work and in life – and understanding our patterns in those situations opens the door to developing new ways of approaching life situations with greater confidence…and enjoyment!

It is my privilege to be able to hold a safe space for clients so that they can feel safe enough to recognise and understand their (unconscious) patterns of defence and to develop more effective strategies for success.

I see myself as a non-judging but challenging ‘thought partner’, working together with my clients, with their wellbeing and development as the focus of our work together.
